Mikheil Saakashvili was fooled into starting a battle that his little country couldn't win and the guys who reassured him that Russia would not dare retaliate were nowhere to be found when Russian troops were on Georgian soil. That little conflict had a bigger implication for other former Soviet nations that wanted to join NATO. The Russians were sending a message that only East Europeans can easily understand.
