This is a live recording of Krystian Zimerman's performance, at the 9th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (1975), of Chopin's Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise in E flat major, Op. 22. Zimerman won the first prize at the competition. Zimerman also won two additional prizes: The "Special Prize of Polish Radio for Best Performance of Mazurkas" (the same award that was granted to Henryk Sztompka at the 1st International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, January 23-30, 1927, and to Halina Czerny-Stefanska at the 4th Chopin Competition, September 15 - October 15, 1949), and the "Special Prize of the Frederic Chopin Society for the Best Performance of a Polonaise."

This recording was issued in 1975 on the Muza label (Polskie Nagrania), SX 1309.

Zimerman studied with Andrzej Jasiński at the The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice (Akademii Muzycznej im. Karola Szymanowskiego w Katowicach).
