Thanks for posting 77BC... Toez - if you knew Mike and Terry, you may better appreciate their brand of humor. They riff off of each other and have a good time. Though this song doesn't showcase it, Terry Taylor is one of the greatest living Christian songwriters and Mike Roe is one of the best as well. Mike is certainly one of the best guitarists around. These guys are good people who love the Lord - this song showcases the type of banter they can have during some of their shows.

Lame... I agree.

@onearmguitarist84 wow, thanks so much for saying that -- I forgot that this was a Bailes Brothers tune! I have long admired their work and also recorded “Come To The Saviour Today” a few years back. Beautiful stuff. I appreciate that you think Walter woulda dug this. We were goofing off on the song since we were in a backyard singing for a barbecue, but when we recorded the song on an album we did it with a little more conviction. It’s hard to be ‘reverent’ playing for family bbq’s - :)

@toez2001 Yes they would! Would so~!

@toez2001 Yeah. You got me there. I said it twice. OK, you win.

@kc7fys And dont give us this crap about them being Christians because I know Christians and they wouldnt introduce a song they supposedly revered as hokey and lame.
Let them stick to One Toke Over The Line.........maaaannnnnnnnn.
-
@kc7fys Wow Mannnnn, like Lighten up Mannnn....
Your sound like a broken record Asking me to "lighten up" twice
in the same message.
The bottom line is this....
Im not a Christian, or real religious, BUT
Mike and Terry went out of their way to say the lyrics were , lets see, how did we put it? Oh yeah, kind of lame And oh yeah...Kind of What was the word he used?
Kind of Hokey. Called the song "controversial. So dont do the song if you feel its offending your Liberal Sensitivities. .

@toez2001 Wow. Lighten up. These guys are doing fairly well. They like the song, and are paying tribute to it. You just gotta lighten up there.

Sounds like the boys been listening to The Smothers Brothers.
hey look, Im not a big bible thumper, the bottom line is its become real fashionable and hip to make fun of christianity, if the lyrics are LAME then dont sing the song. Makes you look like a hypocrite. Also I checked out the end of their video. What exactly are they, the Abbot and Costello of country?

The "discussion" at the beginning of the song was setting up the goofing around guitar solo and the trip through the 77's "Mercy Mercy."
The "show" was a backyard party. It was intended to be FUN.
Take a few steps back, take a deep breath and step off your soapbox.

A Really LOUSY Rendition of a GREAT Song. You know what guys, #1 the only ones laughing at your jokes are you. If the songs lyrics are sooo lame, find something else to sing about like smoking weed, why not try one toke over the line? More your speed. Your vocals are weak And you might wanna take voice lessons, lessons on tuning up before you play...Dont discredit a great gospel tune by giving Anti bible commentary. Learn from the greats of country, MOST of who were men of God.

Hey Toez.
Thanks for swinging by. If you knew Mike & Terry, you would know that both are men of God. This show was part of their Backyard BBQ tour, at the Springfield, MO stop that I hosted. This was a "light moment" in the evening, and the discussion prior to the song was to set up the goofing off at the end.
I am in the process of pulling the tune "Joel" off of the DVD, so you can give it a listen.
