WBA Light-Welterweight Title
Metro Arena, Newcastle, England
Amir Khan TKO 1 Dimitriy Salita

Amir Khan (22-1-0, 16 KOs) needed only 76 seconds to make his first defence of his WBA light welterweight title in front of a sold out Metro Arena, Newcastle, England. Khan had his American challenger down within the first 10 seconds; Salita was visibly hurt and did not recover. Khan moved in throwing rapid fire combinations to send Salita to the canvas for the second time. Puerto Rican Referee Luis Pabon stopped the fight after Khan sent Salita to the canvas for a third time.

What now for Khan
Most fans and pundits alike have been making noise regarding a possible rematch with Breidis Prescott, after the Columbian floored Khan in the first round with a devastating knockout inflicting the only blemish on the 22 year olds record when the two met at the M.E.N. Arena, Manchester, in 2008.

Ironically Prescott was on tonights undercard and lost to undefeated Dagenham fighter Kevin Mitchell. The voices for a Prescott rematch will now fade.

Marcos Maidana would be another fight the fans would love to see, but with a 93% knockout ratio Im guessing he is the exact opponent team Khan will be doing everything to avoid. 36 year old Juan Manuel Marquez looks the more interesting fight for Khan, in Vegas it would surely be a seller and with the Mexican on the slide you would have to favour Khan after his performance against fellow Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera. Khan is expected to feature on the Pacquiao Mayweather fight on a possible March date.

  • Someone has suggested that Salita is just a bum; is that because Khan knocked him out in the first round? Well; Prescott knocked Khan out in the first round; does that make Khan a bum?

    I don't think so!!!!!

  • Agree. first round knock outs tell us very little, anyone can get caught cold.

    HI

he did and WON lol who else do you think amir should fight who ever you say he will keep winning.

  • i definetly agree

  • but come on for god sake... who has khan beaten of any class...!?? barrera! thats a joke because barrera was way way past it and not even a true lightweight and only fought at lightweight once previouse to khan.. and he got cut in first round by headbutt lol.. and khans punches was doing nothing to barerra... for fook sake khan for the good of boxing, start fighting good fighters and other champions, or is he gonna go up a weight again and fight another bum champion... LOL

  • @ukchris123

ur right but salita talked alot, those who talk alot, are slow when it comes to action.

for the guy who is talking in this vid, u did not make point, khan worked hard for this guy, and he had a game plan.

  • @KINGOFYARD correction, if mitchell came to fight instead of play tiggy then he would have got k.o'd

  • totally agree. this was not his hardest fight. that goes to andreas kotelnik. khan had to fight salita, but this does not make him any better. he is good but still has to prove himself. next he can fight: victor ortiz, juan diaz, malignaggi, marquez

  • a Prescott win wast a fluke ,khan did make a mistake .. and he was punished bad. but ow kha will perhaps win prescott. prescott is all stregnth nothig more..

  • @KINGOFYARD mitchel was all over prescott what a load of nonsense prescott can only deliver wild wide shots as soon as he comes across anyone who can take his punches hes gonna find it tough to outbox them

  • He got Exposed at top level, with out any defense your going to get hit.lol very entertaining though.

  • I want to see Khan v. Prescott. If Prescott had a good trainer and the right sparring he would have beaten Mitchell. Let Khan go in there and show us all that Prescott's win was a fluke.
