I remember visiting the old camp on a day pass right at the end 1982/3, I can recall that it was a special place but in MUCH need of reinvestment. The sheer scale of the place took your breath away. Clacton was never the same after its closure, like closing a pit in a mining town.

I used to envy all the children who had the chance to go to Butlins. My parents ran their own business and we never went on holiday anywhere. I used to watch the ads on TV and beg them to take us - we never did. Wahh! lol

I worked at Butlins from 1967 to 1972. Filey, Clacton, Bognor and Minehead. The best time of my life and met some great people there but where are you all now? look me up on facebook

What a lovely video, I had a holiday there in the late 70's then worked as a barrel boy carrying lugguge in the early 80's
