i just tied the diamond knot but with 8 strands it turned out great i then added some fender hitches and then a 8 strand japan knot beautiful. its for a walking stick i am carving. i have also added 2 7X5 turks heads on the staff it looks great thank for the help

Oh, thanks. Here I was, thinking it would be nice to have both a button knot and a diamond knot on a knife lanyard I was making, even trying to thread the whole knife through the knot 'til it reached the noose part (without much success) :P

@sevendays00 - The difference: The way its tied and its name. This said: The knot, once completed, is effectively the same as a Diamond Knot.

It's called the Diamond Knot when tied that way. See the attached Video Respoce. In it I show how to tie the knot off a bight.
