Recent research on the major challenge facing state and local governments regarding pension obligations to public employees look dire, but Simon School Professor Clifford W. Smith Jr. says, at least as far as New York State is concerned, it understates the case. Simon Professor Robert Novy-Marx's recent research on government pensions has generated extensive media coverage and he recently testified about it on Capitol Hill. Both Smith and Novy-Marx examined key issues like this during Simon's NYC Conference on May 19 at the Sentry Center.

  • UBS is moving its trading operation from Stamford, CT to downtown New York City because the company says it can't find and keep the talent it needs to effectively run a trading operation. If 28 yr old MBA's from Harvard and Simon want to live in NYC, then it would appear the company's that need their talent will be there too. Sometime Mohammed comes the mountain and sometimes you move the mountain to Mohammed.
