The name derived from the "A" in Alex (Ayuli) and the "R" in Rudi (Tambala), the band's core duo. A.R. Kane ushered in two significant musical movements in England:
"sampladelic" dance and house music, where it remains an integral part of rave culture and its outgrowths.
They also exerted a profound sonic influence on the legion of trippy Shoegazer guitar bands that would emerge a few years later in the UK
