Porsche 550 Spyder flames

well, it's a race car...it wasn't tuned (or designed) for stop and go driving.
The old Lambo Miuras (with the Weber carbs designed for racing) apparently used to catch on fire at stoplights, because they ran so rich, and were designed for continuous wide-open running, that the fuel would pool up in the throat of the carb (or something like that), and then catch on fire somehow.
haha...that problem got fixed when they went to fuel injection...

It is cool, and freaks out the GTI kids behind you. I had a Baja bug that used to love doing that.

Folks, no matter what you say: as VeloceManiac already wrote, this IS the550 owned by Porsche. And it's on display at the Porsche museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. I have seen it driving at several events (e.g. Heidelberg Classic), and it seems to always have this carburator problem. Mr. Bischof should do his magic!! :-) Believe it or not, it's the real one from the Porsche museum. Full stop.

read the description, that's not his car

no it has just been sitting ina museum for years and its burning extra gas, considering the engine is so close to the end of the exhaust its no surprise the flames made it out the tailpipe

Owned by Porsche and displayed at their factory.

it's a pity you are in the usa because they are very expensive to but as replica kits.
UK prices are very resonable and you get the chasis, full body and axles. all you need is the engine, fittings and a spray.

Nice 550! Where did you purchase this?Im kinda hunting one right now, but ive also seen 550 that arent that great looking. Is the rear trunk an aftermarket option? I like how there are vents on the dorsal side. Beautiful car.

Actually it looks like there's another spark plug firing at the rear and of exhaust pipe. The firing is diverted from the engine to the rear plug. It's easy to hear that the engine is going dead when the fire comes out. The spark is directed to the rear exhaust plug. That's just a guess though...
yes it is
