Tee Don Landry, premiere maker of the Zydeco Rubboard ("frottoir), demonstrates the basic hand manufacture of the rubboard. Tee Don's daddy made the first rubboard for Clifton Chenier's brother, Clevelend, in Port Arthur, TX, in 1946.
Our family has roots from California to Texas to Louisiana and Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts. I have always loved New Orleans and the people of the Bayou and now I see our family lived there for years. Check out this amazing piece of American Musical History and Innovation. The Rubboard, built for Cleveland Chenier by Willie Landry is a variation of the Zydeco Washboard.
Dagnabbit, I want to see the actual process of bending taking place, not just shots of already bent material. Landsakes and a cotton pickin mercy hallelujah.
