Glimpses of Central City Opera's 2010 production of THREE DECEMBERS.
Act Two: Part II -- 1996
San Francisco
Charlie's partner Burt has recently died and Charlie packs up his clothes to give to a local church. In the last weeks of Burt's life, Maddy came to visit, effecting a tenuous reconciliation with her son and his partner. Maddy sings a lullaby, soothing Charlie. Maddy talks to Bea on the phone and tells her she has been nominated for a Tony Award and wants Bea and Charlie to accompany her to the ceremony. Maddy's anticipation of a glamorous, picture-perfect night out at the Tonys with her children is diminished by Bea's apparent moodiness, but Bea refuses to talk about her troubles. "Your brother's grief I understand," Maddy tells her. "Yours is a mystery."

LYRICS:
Let it go.
Let the day fade softly into the mist.
The moon's lullaby no dream can resist.
Let it take you away.
Moonbeams are heartstrings
the night gently strums.
Hush now. Listen. Here it comes.
No worries. No troubles. No more fears.
The moon smiles above you,
and Daddy is near.
Joyce Castle can say more with a facial expression than most singers can by singing a full act. She's incredible.
