A demonstration againt new legislation on data retention took place in Vienna on June 7th, 2007. Organized by the Austrian Pirate Party (http://ppoe.or.at), the demonstration started at the University of Vienna and ended at the Ministry of Traffic, Technology and Infrastructure, which is supposed to implement data retention.
In this video (taken in front of the Ministry), the head of the Austrian Pirate Party, Florian Hufsky, says that data retention will not help catch terrorists, who will find ways around it. Instead, it will only help with small-time-crooks. However, for this, data retention is too deep an intrusion into constitutionally granted rights.
