The famous Mozartean performs this incredibly slow version of Belmonte's final aria from Mozart's "Die Entführung aus dem Serail".

From the German Operas box set of the Complete Mozart Edition.

(Sorry for the video. Originally thought this was Anthony Rolfe Johnson)

  • Change the photo please. This is Burrows singing and the conductor sets the pace for the recording. Some are slow others race through to the end as if they are in the Grand National. Can't please everyone!!!!!

  • Yeah, it ain't that easy to change the video. There isn't a "videoswap" option for it, like with the audio. Who conducted though, Böhm? I think the point of a bravura aria is ... bravura. Well, at least one version like this is out there.

  • Sorry, Pal, but this is NOT Anthony Rolfe Johnson but STUART BURROWS.....

And this is actually the correct tempo if you go by the addage that "the blacker the notes the slower the tempo". I think your turntable may be a bit slow, however.

  • Thanks for the correction, I'll change it.

Burrows did "se'all impero", "il mio tesoro" and whole slew of other bravura Mozart arias, and he got all the notes out at the intervals marked in the score. I don't see why he couldn't have done the same here.

    I didn't transfer this from a record; it's from a CD that was re-released in 2006. Cheers!

  • I believe the picture is still Anthony Rolfe Johnson though.

Do you have Topi Lehtipuu's singing of this song? :)

  • Yeah, too lazy to change it :D Maybe in the future!

No, actually, I've never heard of Topi Lehtipuu. I saw his Un aura amorosa, though, and I think it'd be wonderful to see him sing the aria.

  • Nice singing BUT it is not ARJ - I find it quite freaky seeing the photo and not hearing his voice (which is quite different incidentally). I understand it is a hassle but please please could you change the photo. Thanks so much.

  • @Lovelytenor1 Burrows is definitely THE GREATEST MOZART TENOR EVER!!!!

  • @simon4189

You are right Simon - this is Tony Rolfe-Johnson's photo, not Stuart Burrows.

  • This image is of Anthony Rolfe Johnson, not of Stuart Burrows.

  • robert just gave me a few corrent recordings of him that i will share with you, he sounds exactly like stuart burrows its pretty crazy, and the production is identical.

  • The photo is definitely Antony Rolfe Johnson. Please change the photo. It is not Tony singing it is Stuart.

  • I had the privilege of hearing him as Don Ottavio, in his prime. Arguably the loveliest tone of his day. Wonderful strength of breath. Try & find his equal singing Mozart today.
