Gay Pride was celebrated in the center of Rome today in the Piazza della Repubblica. These are some of the images I took today along with the music that was coming off of one of the trucks lined with people (many Transgender) singing along (You can see this at :41). Although there were police cars all around the piazza, there was no trouble. It was a peaceful celebration. There were nearly as many of us photographers as there were participants. These shots are all from the first hour. I left after that because it was getting really crowded.

Some of the signs you see are digs at politicians and, of course, at the Church. Many Italians (gay and straight) would like the church to have less influence on the laws of the country. That is certainly reflected in the comments and the posters of some of the participants.

  • just a question, not hating, but why must you people put your lifestyle on display? I dont agree with homosexuality in any way, but if you choose to be that way, and wish to be proud of it, then simply be that. There is absolutley no reason to put it on display. You never see straight pride parades, with heterosexuals marching around...its just completley unneccesary. And personally its disturbing

  • I can't answer the question. I'm not gay. I'm a citizen journalist that's all and a live and let live person. I'm interested in what happens in my world. There is some controversy in the gay community about Gay Pride, some agree and some resent the large numbers of the trans community. I just wonder why you chose to click on this video if you find it disturbing. It's clearly labeled. Why not watch something else?

  • We'll have to agree to disagree. If you say, they are blasphemous and on the road to hell, isn't that the same as "It means simply not to pass proclamations of eternal judgement upon people." I prefer to leave those judgments to God and I have still not figured out why conservative Christians are OBSESSED with homosexuality and not so much with the sins Jesus actually identified and talked about. The rich not caring for the poor. Think of Lazarus and the rich man. Who ended up in hell?

  • the act of homosexuality is a sin in the eyes on God. But He wants to forgive your blasphemous behavior and save you from the fires of Hell if you repent and humble yourselves before Jesus, the One who bought you with His own Blood.

  • Everyone is a sinner. Jesus Christ said, "Judge not that you be not judged." Who are you to say that your sin is less serious than someone else's? I'm not gay, but I don't consider myself any less sinful than anyone else. Christ himself never spoke about homosexuality, but he did have a lot to say about being ungenerous, not taking care of the poor, being proud and arrogant and judging others. That's what I'm more concerned about.

  • @margottelint It's just so stupid and sick that you are saying homosexual people that are living a good normal life are going to hell!

  • @pacoprince17 Ma se queste cose ti danna fastidio perche sei entrato qua??? e un altra cosa che cosa ce di male??

  • @myles0909 We don't choose to be that way so that is the first thing that I would like to make clear to you.....secondly we do the GAY PRIDE so we can fight more for our rights and so we can be noticed!!! so that's the intention not to put it on display and no one tells that straight pride is wrong gay people cannot make straight prides they have to do one!

  • @myles0909 perhaps the "display" aspect is because the animosity of the homosexual lifestyle. If we had the same rights as heterosexuals I'm sure the "statements" or "display" as you put it.....would be much less flamboyant.

  • sembra il carnevale di rio.

    che vergogna,

non capisco come si possano autorizzare certe manifestazioni

  • It's like this...

When I was little and Mother's Day or Father's Day would come around, I would always ask "Why isn't there a kid's day?" My parents would respond, "Everyday is kid's day."

Well, everyday is Straight Day! It isn't wrong for people to assemble and celebrate who they are. It isn't about putting it on display, and for people to say that it takes the emphasis off the people who are celebrating and puts it on the ones who don't believe in it. It isn't about you...

  • So when I said that Jesus can save gay people from the fires of Hell, I obviously did not formulate my thought correctly. I meant to say...He can save them from the road to Hell they're on. Any obstinate and unrepentant sinner is on that road. Including TONS of so called Christians.
