It seems that every other day some new study comes out with conflicting information about fats, oils, nuts and seeds.

Are you "going nuts" trying to sort the truth from the propaganda? Are all fats created equal? Is olive oil a health food? Is the Mediterranean Diet the healthiest diet? What about the French Paradox? Are nuts and seeds good for you?

In this eye-opening lecture, Jeff will help you understand the skinny on fats.

This is a short excerpt from Jeff Novick's 90-minute talk on fats. Want the full picture about olive oil? About the Mediterranean Diet? The various kinds of fats?

It's all available on Jeff's OIL TO NUTS DVD at: https://secure2.vegsource.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=88&products_...

MORE INFO ABOUT MEDITERRANEAN DIETS:

Conclusions: "In terms of their effects on postprandial (after a meal) endothelial function, the beneficial components of the Mediterranean and Lyon Diet Heart Study diets appear to be the antioxidant-rich foods—vegetables, fruits, and their derivatives such as (balsamic) vinegar, and omega-3-rich fish and canola oils—not olive oil. Canola oil may share some of the unique vasoprotective properties of other omega-3-rich oils, such as fish oil. Dietary fruits, vegetables, and their products appear to provide some protection against the direct impairment in endothelial function produced by high-fat foods, including olive oil."

  • Where the hell has thy guy come out from? Not even a child would get into such a stupid trap!

Oil is fat, by definition. Would would be surprised not finding carbohydrates or proteins in it. Not a word about the antioxidants, which are so important!

14% saturated fat means 86% unsaturated fat.

Ice-cream is loaded with sugar (including lactose), animal proteins (which "switch on" cancer as T.Colin Campbell says), cholesterol.

    This presentation is rubbish.

  • Some of you seem to be missing the point completely. People have lived over 100 years despite smoking cigarettes every day of their life since adolescence. Pointing to some freak exception, and listening to what she *believes* was the cause of the longevity, is ridiculous. It's bad science.

As to replacing it with sugar and ice cream, he was INTENTIONALLY showing an absurd comparison, but did you even listen to his comparison in terms of the nutritional characteristics??

  • For everyone saying the guy is crazy and ice cream is so bad for you yada yada yada... you should know he is JOKING about the ice cream, the man is vegan and does not put ice cream on his salad or anywhere else on his dinner table... unless it's homemade banana "ice-cream" made by freezing a banana and then blending it with a little natural vanilla extract.

He was just making the point that olive oil is higher in calories and is not a weight loss food any more than Ben and Jerry's is.

  • Another 'OFF' Dr. Read your history books before you speak to people, Jeff.

  • @Majorsixth this does not explain why some people are thin while others are obese on the same diet. Metabolic syndrome, hypothyroidism etc Some people can eat huge amounts of carbs and remain thin. Some have inefficient metabolisms. Some books say the opposite to others.

  • Thank you Jeff. I had not realised that olive oil was so unhealthy in my diet. Eating salad with no dressing now.

  • Someone tell this dipshit that oil by definition IS fat and millions of thin people in the Mediterranean can't be wrong!

  • @goosewort

Saying that you've become "fat adapted" is junk science

  • junk science: saturated fat is not bad.

  • @PaleAfternoon A perfect example of good metabolism can be observed within mammals that hybernate. They store body fat to use as energy while they sleep for long periods This is the process of ketosis, I don't imagine black bears find it toxic. I reckon it would be a grand idea if you asked a teacher to help you before you start writing about issues you don't understand. Final response, good bye.
