This video documents a therapy session with "Dr. Freud" (name withheld for Patient/Doctor confidentiality) where I experience THE PEOPLE IN MY HIPs. This is wild stuff. Don't worry. I cured myself.
Manhattan Repertory Theatre presents THE PEOPLE IN MY HIPS, a true story documented and performed by Ken Wolf premiering Saturday January 17, 2009 at 8 p.m. at Manhattan Repertory Theatre, 303 W. 42nd St. (at 8th Ave) Third Floor and then Saturday January 24, 31, and February 7 at 3 p.m. and on-going TBA. Tickets are $20. For ticket reservations call: (646) 329-6588.
THE PEOPLE IN MY HIPS documents the amazing true story of Ken Wolf's three year battle with severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Conversion Reaction which manifested while he was enrolled in Yoga Teacher Training five years ago. Narrated and performed by Mr. Wolf, who filmed himself for over three years, THE PEOPLE IN MY HIPS is interspersed with real video footage of his often bizarre somatic physical reactions, (his body often being thrown around the room,) actual psychotherapy sessions where he communicates with the People in his Hips, and personal video diary clips. From breakdown to breakthrough, Ken recounts and relives this inspirational story, with passion, curiousity and humor.
Developing a condition which was diagnosed as Conversion Reaction coupled with severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Ken sought multiple physical and psychotherapies coupled with intensive one-on-one Yoga Training in his attempt to cure himself. This play explores his journey as he manifests a split personality in his left hip dubbed Baby Ken who then leads Ken on a quest to discover an unknown childhood abuser and to heal himself, all chronicled with amazing real life video clips of his experience. THE PEOPLE IN MY HIPS is a prayer of possibility for survivors of childhood abuse, and an affirmation of the power of the still, strong, soulful voice inside us all.
Ken Wolf is the Artistic Director of Manhattan Repertory Theatre which has produced over 160 productions in the last 3 years. Ken is author of 16 plays and has directed over 35 productions. As an actor, his favorite roles include Vershinin in The Three Sisters, Biff in The Death of a Salesman, Mozart in Amadeus, Jeff Fox in Conversations with Dog and Mark Ryan in his play, The Eyes of Love. He lives and works in NYC.
