it's cultural. The gov't. of Australia took their citizen's guns away.....fairly easily. If the U.S, gov't. tried that......it'd be a bloodbath. Basically, when the U.S. was founded, the right to keep and bare arms was granted. Even with the Declaration of Independence....."keeping the gov't. in check" is a huge theme. It's entrenched in the American psyche. Americans believe without guns....they'd be slaves to an opressive government.
