deflagration of the weak explosive HDN (Hexamethylenetetramine Dinitrate) the explosive is a slightly nitrated member of the hexamine family.

  • has anyone had any luck detonating hdn?? and if so were the results good?

  • No I haven't tried but I suspect it would need a rather large cap.

  • Cool, I'm going to make this with a nitrate salt method. I see the detonation velocity is around 6000m/s which is pretty good. How large of a cap will i need to detonate it using TATP for example? Also what are your yields like? (in %%%)

  • Not sure I don't have enough room to det at the moment. I suggest straight acid, even HCl will do, yields are very high sorry I don't know the percent.

  • Have you made Urea Nitrate, just out of interest?

    I seem incapable of deflagerating it, unless kept in direct flame...

    Any ideas people?

  • No I haven't and that's because it won't deflagrate, it detonates with a fairly large cap.

  • can anyone tell me where to get HDN? ive been looking for ever and i cant find hexamine tablets  which i guess would be the easiest source

  • HDN isn't very useful is it ? The only use i know for it is the synthesis of RDX
