City of Arcadia: EZ Pack Apollo

Alan and I ventured off to Arcadia this winter, hoping to see an old EZ-Pack slide-sweep rear loader we had seen parked in their yard on streetview. Unfortunately they had gotten rid of the old truck years ago, but this Apollo was great nonetheless.

Because it's a small rural community, collection in Arcadia consists of garbage and yard waste. There is absolutely no recycling, but yard waste collection is state mandated. The city runs two of these trucks, along with a Hercules FL/Mack MR for commercial collection. Note the single rear step spanning the width of the hopper. In Alan's vid you can see the loader crossing from one side of the truck to the other on the step, it also seems it would be useful for 3+ man crews on the rear.

@ash4245 I have operated both EZ paks and Leach rear loaders! EZ paks have larger packing cylinders than the leach-therefore a larger load! The EZ pak has a 3.0 and 3.7 and now a 4.0 cubic yard hopper. The leach 2r2 and 2r3 have about 3.5cubic yard hoppers! EZ pak has a lower loading height (important) EZ pak is faster in it's cycle, EZ pak is not as heavy as a leach so you can drive faster stop to stop! EZ pak is my choice if I was going to buy a garbage truck!

is this as good as a leach?? just want some opinions, the packing looks pretty good how do the ez packs hold up??

We never loaded refrigerators or anything to dangerous maybe a couch or somthing to that effect but nothing like refrigerators, car batteries or anything like that just your average everyday household garbage but, I will admit i did enjoy my job for the time I was there as for the "little green truck", yes that was my supervisor checking to make sure everything was going smoothly. That's a gun packer... opens, down, sweeps and up in seconds! Though when it swings down I can just imagine it pushing a fridge straight out of the hopper haha Nice little machine, cool sound to the engine too. Still prefer the original Apollo design, sort of differentiates it from the Goliath.
