Are you sure it's girdle and not a medieval"garter"? Because I've just checked my history of literature book and it doesn't say anything about a girdle, I hope you had an A+ for this project:-)

@iorixs It represents the five attributes that every knight should have, and also how a knight without any of these attributes is not a true knight (because a pentangle without five sides is not a pentangle).

The romance genre of this time did not dictate "a romance" in the sense of the love. Romance at this time meant ballad (referring to the structure of the poem) and/or that it was a story of an individual (in opposition the epic which is the story of a people or a nation)
