Sheep's Mountain Area
BADLANDS NATIONAL PARK
is located on County Road 589 (Sheep Mountain Road), just 5-10 miles south of Scenic, South Dakota. It is a mountain area of canyons and climbs. The road is unpaved and bumpy. The Lakota nation (Sioux) called this area "Mako Sico" or "Land Bad". It consists of sedimentary rocks ,coal and clay-rich soils which has been eroded by wind and rain.
