After 13 days of negotiations, 50 hours and hundreds of amendments, the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee passed a health care overhaul along party lines. U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., Ranking Member on the HELP Committee slammed the rubber stamp approval of a healthcare reform bill that will drive up health care costs, increase the national deficit by more than $1 trillion and force millions of Americans to lose the health care they have and like. The HELP Committee passed the Kennedy health care bill on a party line vote of 13-10 Wednesday morning.
