  • I couldn't even hear VTEC kick, its cause your check engine light is on though fix that and I guarantee you that your lude will scream like a MO'FO!!!! :D

  • yeah, can't wait to fix that... didn't realize that it's pretty quiet. A cai would bring it out more. But def curious now what kind of difference the EGR valve makes in sound and performance.

  • @zadeh79 Actually, it was AutoCar that tested the 183 DIN (180hp), automatic Prelude VT-i model. They recorded 7.9 seconds , for 0-60. However, the base models in the US have 200hp, 20 more than the European variety. It can be estimated from this, 0-60 in 7.6 seconds, for the AUTO, in SportShift mode.

  • @zadeh79 A more realistic estimate, based off of averages (from data I've seen), from proper launches, would probably be something like: 6.9 for the stick, and 7.8, for the automatic, in SS mode. Numbers like 7.5 for the manual are ridiculously high.

  • @somenutjob It's not a full 2 seconds slower than a manual. The 60 time for the manual has been recorded at 6.5 seconds (Youtube: MW honda prelude review). I've seen conservative estimates of up to 7.6 seconds, but only from edmunds and consumer review, not organizations made of serious sports car enthusiasts.

The SS Auto was recorded by a swedish magazine, in 7.9 seconds, using SportShift. but there are a couple youtube vids of people clocking in closer to 7, flat, for the SS.

You don't have to explain that, I know what a clutch and torque converter is. The auto trans is not that much heavier, maybe a few pounds but that's it. Correct, you can use the auto-manual feature for better shift points, and your run times won't fluctuate as with a manual (human error, missing gears etc.) that was my whole point, consistency is key.

  • @casinotriple that's not true, the auto is much slower than the manual. Autos don't have a clutch they've got a Torque Converter which is not as efficient at delivering power to the gearbox as a standard clutch. Also they are heavier. look up the 0-60 times for preludes auto vs manual. Also look up what a torque converter is; Wikipedia is your friend in this case.

as i said before the Auto's shift points are not good for acceleration unless you use the manual selection system.

  • @somenutjob

"0-60 for the auto is about 2 seconds slower than the manual"

That's BS man. Both transmissions run the same. If anything the automatic is more consistent with it's acceleration times, whereas the manual will vary.

  • I had no idea that with the automatic trans that it 'falls out of vtec RPM' on up-shifts if you know what i mean.

I have the 5spd and on up-shifts if you rev the motor out to about 7.6 to 7.8 then when you select 2nd gear the RPM is above the vtec engagement point. no wonder the 0-60 for the auto is about 2 seconds slower than the manual! (among other reasons I'm not stupid)

  • Mines at 5400

  • @s0ubpimpin it kicks in at about 5200. I own one.
