All the pieces came together to recently produce a successful first run of a ground test investigating how ice can accumulate inside a hot jet engine. A full-size engine, spray bars to create the ice cloud, data gathered from actual flights and researcher know-how at NASA's Glenn Research Center worked smoothly to accurately replicate certain high-altitude icing conditions that can cause engine power loss.
