Did you know 24 people are serving life without parole in Nebraska for crimes they committed when they were under the age of 18?

In the rest of the world, outside of the United States, there are zero.

Support LB 843 and eliminate the possibility of a sentence of life without parole for minors.

  • informative video!

  • This problem is a big one, I admit. I don't have the answer either, but I believe something needs to be changed, I saw a documentary on here the other day where some kid under 18 is doing 5 years in state prison for setting a fire in a dumpster, and eventually commited suicide because he couldn't handle prison life.

    God bless America?

  • One of the four stated purposes of our legal system is punishment and retribution. No punishment other than life without parole or execution can be said to sufficiently punish the crime of murder.

I ask that American legislators do not make the mistake we have, the mistake of thinking that murderers are capable, or deserving, of rehabilitation.

  • In England our legal system has sentences, for murder, of between 4 and 10 years for under 18s who committ murder.

And a starting point of 15 years for adults who commit murder (this can be altered, depending on aggravating and mitigating factors, at the Judge's discretion).

In 15 years the murderer is released back into the general population, yet their victim is still dead and their victim's family is still suffering the loss of one of its members.

Where is the justice in that?

  • Rehabilitation? People who murder others are beyond rehabilitation, they need locking up for the sake of the rest of the country.

It is evidenced by the statistics that many murderers who are paroled go on to committ more crimes when released.

If we locked all murderers up for life without parole this could not happen, could it?

Or do you just care about the vile scum who are in jail, as opposed to their victims?

  • Think about it like this. They must have committed a very heinous crime (multiple murders, murder aggravated by rape etc) to be handed down such a sentence.

Are you saying that if a 17 year old kills 20 people they should be let out in 30 or 40 years?

What about the people who they robbed of life, they will NEVER be let out will they?

These people imprisoned for life at least have the privelege of being allowed to live, unlike their victims.

  • I was able to find the statement about the death penalty in the covenant, but not the statement about life without parole. Can you direct me to the section where I may find that?
