  • That thing must weigh a million tons. The LARC that is.

  • Nah, just 195,000 pounds...

  • These we're what the LCAC (Landing Craft Air Cushion...the Navy hovercraft's)replaced. They weigh about 100 tonnes and can carry the same. Powered by a couple of Detroit Diesel v12's. Seeing them in real life you just stand there looking up with your mouth open. No question in your mind that these things could crush a house without a second thought. They needed replacing as the new Hovercraft landing vehicles are much faster ans can traverse virtually any terrain.

  • From what we are told by those that still maintain these in the US Army and National Guard inventory, the LARC is still the only vehicle able to carry such a load over rough surf and up steep slopes once on land, reportedly 45-60%. But what a maintenance nightmare!

  • I think that is the flattest I've ever seen a car get crushed. How much does it weigh?

  • Unladen, it weighed about 195,000 pounds when we craned it out of the Cumberland River. It's rated for 60,000# payload, but was known to carry up to 100,000 under ideal conditions.

  • That NSU was stripped of its engine and all parts so it's no wonder it became so flat when crushed.Besides it's an early 70's compact car anyway.

  • Schade um den NSU!

  • ??? While I was assigned to the NAB Little Creek Amphib Museum (while there WAS one), I saw a LARC-XV manual and inside the engine-rooms of 2 of them. The book said two normally-aspirated Cummins-300 V8s (792 cubic inches each). What I saw looked like a pair of normally-aspirated V8 Diesels. Looked as if the cabin & the deck would need to go, if any serious work on those puppies was required. Best regards, all.

  • @mathiastheok the larc does not use v12 it uses 4 6-71 detroit diesels each powering one wheel and 2 in tandem to power the props

  • Why the second operator dont post the video?

  • It's paper car.

  • no more traffic jams

  • Et vous trouvez cela intelligent ?

  • Oh man, why is the army crashing the good old cars? They should take the new cars...=\
