@Sorry2BurstYou It can do in the case of modern first editions. Essentially, the purist collector requires the book in (as far as possible) first state.
This means: Dustwrapper / not price-clipped / not inscribed (unless by Author or "association" which can add immensely to value)
Outside of this criteria, it often makes little difference unless the book of of very significant value.

Not at all. General rule of thumb is, the more writing in the author's hand the better.

I have been collecting autographed books for about 2 years and have around 700 of them. I recently found Muhammad Ali numbered leather book at a thrift store for 6 bucks. I do believe that they have some value and will have more in the days to come.
