Not sure when the term "shredder" came in....but Randy was unlike a lot of players I think. Sure he used hammer-ons and pull-offs too, but he sure did pick most of the notes....that not really an easy thing to do cleanly. RR was a master of it!

I think it's cool to practice Randy techniques- but you should not do it exclusively- otherwise you'll never fully develop your original voicings
