This accident (6 May 2010) happened on an urban motorway/highway (M621 junction 2, Leeds) when a truck trying to return to the driving lane clipped a Porsche Boxster travelling parallel (lane capture/clinching) in the nearside blind spot of the truck driver's view, having been given way onto the carriageway 0.4 mile (0.64 km) earlier at junction 1. The car connects with the truck's steer wheel causing complete loss of steering and pulls away just in time before the 44 tonne truck rolls over. The contact and inertia causes the trailer carrying 30 tonne sand to topple. The blind spot is a documental accident risk and with God's grace no one was injured. This has to be a lesson for drivers with small vehicles on the dangers associated with a truck blind spot.

Speed was an issue with all vehicles concerned. The first truck in the video was being followed by the second truck, under instruction, by a new recruit on his first day with the company. Notice how even after the accident the first truck, driven by the boss's son does not stop to enquire or assist. WHY? Thank goodness it all happened in view of CCTV cameras and dismissing any rumours, accusations or lies as a result. Safe driving to all viewers and remember ALWAYS use the SEAT BELTS. It could be the ONE & ONLY chance!

  • @2009vampiregirl Mirrors do not cover all areas or blind spots in a large truck. Remember that next time you are around a large vehicle. If you can’t see the driver’s eyes in the mirror you can bet he can’t see you. It is best to stay away from them and anticipate that the truck is going to move into your path of travel exactly when you don’t expect it, look up the Smith System on Google. I am a Truck Driver and I won't drive around another truck unless I have to.

  • Well, that's the idiotic cab over design...thank god, there is few of this crappy design left in America...beside the driver having to endure sitting right on top of the engine there is this big blind spot down the other side...

  • why all i see is police car.. the first thing should be on sight is a fire truck, and a ambulance, police cant do shit.. that is why a lot of people end up die when they cld be save, because cops are always the first to be up in shit and all there looking for is to put someone in jail they dont care about ppls life.. i say this cause thats how my cousin die, when all the cop did was stay there and look at him and say hold on tight buddy help is coming.. I HOPE NO ONE DIE

  • Lesson 1, never stay in the blind spot of any vehicule... if you can't understand that then don't drive, plain and simple.

  • @2009vampiregirl Mirrors cannot eliminate all blind spots.

  • @nojiggabooo or.. maybe the porsche was in the lorries blind spot causing him to not realize that hew as there

  • @nojiggabooo Cool stereotyping bro. You must be a highly intellectual individual to believe that an entire nation can be summarised by a single demographic.

  • Typical British driver. Probably reading a newspaper at the wheel.

  • very lucky it happed when the road behind was empty bar one car, could have been a real mess otherwise

  • OMG.. It's a wonder that no one was dead!!

But aren't special mirrors for your blind spot necessary in the USA? Or in other countries? Here in Holland a truck can get a ticket because of not having such mirrors. It's introduced about 10 years ago, when a lot of teens get accidents when they are going to school by bike and crash under a truck because of the blind spot.
