The Serenity Center, located in Columbia, Md. is a quiet place where up to 400 troubled individuals come each week and find a place with the support and self-help tools to recover from addiction, abuse, personal and mental health issues. These awards have been given out by the Association of Community Services of Howard County (ACS) (Md.) since 1975 to human services organizations, volunteers, and staff of human services organization whose contributions go above and beyond all expectations in service to the community. For more information visit www.acshoco.org.
Sponsors for 2009 were: ALCO Pharmacy, Athelas Institute, Inc., Chase Brexton, Community Action Council, Corridor Transportation Corporation, Emerge, GenXaret, Howard County Department of Citizen Services, Howard County Housing, Maryland Cooperative Extension, OBA Bank, Patuxent Publishing, and Yoga Center of Columbia
It seems like a great organization, i wish there were more like it in my area... its been tough making the transition into human services from construction foreman, but the world needs more people looking to lend a hand, and part of my reason for the switch is the lack of effort put into alternatives to traditional treatments and services, all good options should be considered...its good to see organizations like this getting some publicity on YouTube.
