A video on the Palomar Transient Factory, a a fully-automated, wide-field survey aimed at a systematic exploration of the optical transient sky conducted at Palomar Observatory.
The video includes an introduction of the High-Performance Wireless Research and Education Network which makes this kind of observing possible.

155mbps? That seems low on the bandwidth end. only ~3x consumer products. I bet the latency is more impressive, that seems like it would be the more important metric with such a network. The second link you talked about is pretty cool, I'm acctually confused why it doesn't have this redundancy feature already.

Ironically I just now watched a video simulation of the earth being hit by a comet. This system might be one of the first to let us know when such an event is likely to happen in the future.

Just have to avoid transmitting in the water resonance frecuency ti not cooking people. Microwaves are used by mobile phones, so is the same.

how do you prevent the microwaves from cooking people or birds that go through the beam? or maintain the link if someone is in front of it? would you just put the power low and use a frequency that would go through people?

That's both excellent and informative.
