Oscar-winner Denzel Washington and "Star Trek's" Chris Pine team with action maestro Tony Scott in this non-stop action thriller. A massive unmanned locomotive, nicknamed "The Beast" and loaded with toxic cargo, roars through the countryside, vaporizing anything put in front of it. • @garfert in the movie the dead man switches didn't work because the air brakes were unhooked.

  • thank god in Australia we have dead man switchs. so stuff like this doesn't happen

  • @skullcrusher301 80? Whew- thank you.

I asked because the classic image of a US freight train is of a miles-long behemoth trundling along with three or four locomotives at either end and probably a few in the middle though I knew some freight services hit 50-odd on main lines.

By contrast the ubiquitous load lugger in Britain, the class 66, will get 1,500 tons up to 60MPH but that's almost its top speed (oh- according to Wikipaedia -ahem- some can do 75).

  • @TimRuffle There was a runaway in Pennsylvania in 2001 and the police used a shotgun and shot at the fuel cutoff switch. And a US freight locomotive can easily get to 70 MPH because the speed limit for the BNSF railway near my home is 70MPH, and the over speed control is set at 80MPH.

  • @CSX2665 I guess I must be because I can't see any way in which that comment is helpful, productive, relevant, edifying or even entertaining.

  • @TimRuffle wat r u stupid?.

  • @cornholio435 So it's basically an adult version of Thomas the Tank Engine. Wow, they are really desperate these days for movie ideas.

  • @AxlMidas Saw this stupid stupid stupid film today- they're trying to hit the fuel cut-off button. Why they didn't hole the fuel tanks is left open to question. This being a Hollywood train I suppose a bullet through a fuel tank, even one with diesel in, would blow it and everything else up.

Still quite enjoyed it BTW but then it's got trains in so I would. Can US freight loco's get anywhere near 70MPH?

  • @limbdarkening No not really. XD Its a story in the Railway Series book Duck and the diesel engine(you would know it as Thomas the tank engine). Both the plots are broadly similar .ie a runaway train being stopped by a Engine.

  • @MyMelancholyDodo It is. It just keeps rolling like an unstoppable cliche.
