Pictures and video from the tornado that struck Windsor, Colorado May 22nd, 2008 at around 11:30 in the morning.

The music piece is called Pianos from the Serenade Schizophrana by Danny Elfman.

Update 5/24/08 - My wife and I just got back visiting our parents in Windsor. We also took a drive around to where we could get to and saw some of the damage. Once you get to about 5th street is where you start seeing damage and trees up rooted. Streets once lined with big beautiful trees are now barren. There are condemned houses the further east you go. The town cemetary used to have old trees there as well, but almost all of them are gone. It's a very sad site. People are out trying to clean up what they can. There was people in city park helping to clear the downed trees. All streets from 2nd street east are closed. There are alot of people from around Colorado helping out with the clean up. There are some business open, some using generators some have their power back on. Main power could be restored by Monday or Wednesday. They are letting people in to their home to gather and salvage what they can, but it will be a slow process.

I'll update again when I have more info or send me a message and I'll reply.

Update 5/25/08 - Residents have been let back into their homes. Of the 596 homes assessed, 340 have been cleared for occupancy. An additional 154 homes are habitable, but will require repairs. An additional 102 homes have been declared unsafe to occupy.

More power has been restored. I know my parents have power, but no my wifes parents.

Memorial Day events at the cemetary will go on as scheduled.

Take care.

Update 5/28/08 I had to go to Windsor yesterday to check up on the playhouse I work at, which is very close to where the tornado hit. There was no damage and we currently had no power. It's sad to see so much destruction to a town that you love and care for. But, people were out cleaning up trying to put their lives back together. On a side note, there was an old gentleman walking around the area giveing people envelopes with a $100 bill in it. Another angel, I would say, just trying to do his part.

  • Hey do you guys have Tornadoes near Highlands Ranch? I was considering buying property there- I'm in Southern California LA County. I was trying to find the best possible place to raise my family. However, I don't want to be near any sort of Natural Disaster areas. Do you guys have Tornadoes? Earthquakes? Floods? And what about Crime? I know you're close to Denver- is there a bid Drug problem? like Meth? And how is it? do you like it? how do you like it out there?please write me back thnx

  • @shaneslifestory HIghlands Ranch has a lower probablility for tornados. As far as being near natural disaster areas, everywhere can end up being one. I;m not sure about crime rates or drug use rate for Highlands Ranch, but I do believe it to be better than Denver itself. I love Colorado. The only other area I really loved living at was Seattle. I've been to LA and San Diego. I like visiting, but that's about it. Try and come out on a vacation if you can. See Colorado for yourself. :)

  • The one cow in farmville tipped over.... utter devastation

  • @shaneslifestory Wouldn't want to live where there are natural disasters... so you live in southern CA where there are more fault lines than anywhere in the continental US? I'm confused. But Highlands Ranch is as clean and safe as suburbia gets, so good choice if you don't want to deal with LA-type crime.

  • i live here in widsor, i hated when this hit. it was huge. everyone was scared! i was

  • @shaneslifestory It's not normal for them to have tornadoes but, the schools are not great. Having said that Colorado is a great place to live.

  • I was there, I was heading up to go to windsor high school to see where my friends new school was, and that sucker crossed right infront of me. I remember hiding out under some weird bridge.

  • the choice of music was nearly as damaging as the tornado

  • Hell, I was IN that sucker. NOT FUNNY.

  • There should not be an apostrophe in the caption text, "the lives of its people".
