Dr. Ether here. On an expedition into my old desk, I uncovered an old, well-used copy of SimCity 3000 Unlimited that I got back in 2000. Hanging out on the disc is a trailer for a canceled game called SimsVille, which was to be a lot like The Sims. However, SimVille supposedly sucked. When Maxis showed the game off at a reception held to celebrate the release of The Sims: House Party in March 2001, it was shown to play like a subpar version of The Sims. So SimVille got canned, but elements of it showed up later in later installments of Maxis' The Sims franchise.
Also, sidenote: For a game that's over 11 years old, SimCity 3000 Unlimited stands up very well against the test of time. I'd recommend picking up a copy of it and playing it if you ever get the chance. It still looks wonderful, and is a true gem.
WE. NEED. THIS. GAME.
