It's the home of the Seattle Mariners, however back in 1995, Safeco field had a bumpy road making it's way to reality. I produced this video in 2004 for KSTW's Bullpen show. Special thanks to Chris Cashman, and KSTW's Ten O' clock news archive.

  • Safeco is a beautiful park and I love baseball, but being a sports fan does not abrogate my duty as a citizen. Seattle also built the Seahawks, who are owned by 19th richest man on earth, a facility. Both stadiums totalled 1 billion dollars of tax money. At that point there was no more money to hand out so the Supersonics felt slighted and left. So the city doubled its costs, halved the rent, gave up percentages of the concession and parking and lost one professional sports franchise.

  • oh goodness. i cant even imagine seattle without the mariners.

  • Yeah, I heard about this. The Mariners needed a new stadium. Just imainge Seattle, with out the Mariners. What I guess, that peope voted no on Safeco Field, really didn't like baseball, or something.
