Barely two weeks after a train heading to Uganda crashed into nearby shanties at the Kibera slums, killing 10 people, it appears that no lessons have been learned. It is not only just business as usual for traders but residents are also busy reconstructing their houses..Right beside the railway line. This is despite the eviction notice issued by the railway management when the incident occurred. But as Sally Mbilu reports, residents encroaching on the railway line argue that they have run out of options.

  • ---there are no governmental services in Kibera, and to be honest this is only one problem...there are other dwellings falling off hills killing people all the time. Kibera is a disaster and is not suitable for people to live in but the people have no options and the government is not going to help these people. That is just the reality of the situation. So sad!

  • watu wa kipra wanasaana usiku na muuchana

  • where is the local authority to come and clear these shanties next to the railway. or are we waiting for the next big disaster to happen before we can act for a short while then when the dust settles forget?
