Sung and performed by a group of Brown's Market (formerly I.G.A) employees called "The Lindy Rigs," "Loose Reel" took first place at the Genoa Days open mic competition on June 9, 1988 in Genoa, Il. This is a parody of Kenny Roger's Lucille. Here are the lyrics so you can follow along.
Verse 1:
On a lake by the border;
a contest in order;
of fishing champs all around.
A trophy of glass;
to the largest caught bass;
they measured in inches and pounds.
When the contest got started;
the boats they all parted;
each found their own fishing hold.
With Lindy Rigs and Spinners;
from pros to beginners;
they were after whatever could be caught with their poles.
Verse 2:
Now I bought my own pole;
and I found a fishing hole;
the champ thought I looked out of place.
With my bright lured hat;
and my face net for nats;
he had a strange look on his face.
The big waters were still;
my dreams unfulfilled;
for a minute I thought it was dead.
But my line was taken!
The big pole was shaken!
When it fell in the water I said.
Chorus:
You picked a fine time to leave me loose reel.
Four puny panfish in a boat made of steel.
I lost the big bass;
the trophy, the big cash.
And this time the hurtin' won't heal.
You picked a fine time to leave me Loose Reel.
Verse 3:
The big champ had no luck;
he floated on over;
and cast his line in by me.
My fish he did snag;
with the pole that I had;
hanging from its mouth I could see.
She was a beauty;
but she belonged to me;
the champ thought that I lost my mind.
He won the contest;
but I still do protest;
and claim that the fish is half mine!
Chorus:
Pretty funny. :)
