A film by Ben Cato Clough and Luke Upchurch.

Suddenly, copyright rules no longer do what they are supposed to do. They have gone bad.

This is a film about how copyright has become one of the most important consumer issues of the digital age; why corporate lobbying risks criminalising the actions of hundreds of thousands of people; and what the future holds for the fight for fairer copyright laws.

When Copyright Goes Bad is an introduction to the renegotiation of copyright and is for anyone interested in how copyright is affecting consumers. It features some of the key players in the copyright debate, including:

Fred Von Lohmann - Electronic Frontier Foundation; Michael Geist - University of Ottawa Law School; Jim Killock - Open Rights Group; and Hank Shocklee - Co-founder of Public Enemy.

The difference is simply: Stealing = the original is taken / Copying = The original remains.

While I do support an artists or labels rights to have their property not be freely given away as it does cut into profits, versions that are not as pristine as studio releases could in effect generate free publicity for their work. Some may like it so much they choose to purchase the highest quality version available which is indeed from the label distributor. FLAC is a format that does not degrade with each generational copy but is rarely used due to its large file size.

Wow this video is sharing light on how terrible it's getting. I hate the new system of how YouTube uses matching videos with a program. It robs the uploader's right to defend themself before being blocked. I understand the needs of copyright, but things have gone too far. Fair use was an important middle ground. Eliminateing that crosses the line with me. O_o We don't even have the freedom to sing "Happy Birthday". The origional songwriters have been dead for over 50 years.

I think you guys are being to polite. I don't think we should just "renegotiate" copyright. I say lets just scrap the whole f*king thing down, lets not protect anything but attribution. If you don't want me to use your music as I see fit then keep it for yourself.People are afraid that without copyright there would be less music, less movie and whatever.I don't know that it's true but if it is, then good riddance.Lets get rid of all the parasites and keep only those who do art for the sake of art
