Windshield wipers (or any other solar panel dust cleaners) wouldn't have made a difference for this mission. It landed in within the arctic circle (as planned-- for the ice study) and "died" five months later when the summer midnight sun gave way to winter darkness. That'll do Phoenix, that'll do.

I'd put the solar cells on tilting panels - like a venetian blind arrangement. Then, they'd just have to tilt them to vertical and let the dust fall off. Perhaps with a little help by vibrating or mechanically tapping the panel frame.

lol its true yea some mechanism to clear off the panels in reality, would have done the trick. now lets say if the power level in the batteries dropped a certain amount, then they would do a quick pass with a wiper, not actually just a windshield wiper design, but something that will clean the entire cell with one pass. must have been a way.
