The first time I heard this song I burst into tears. I was living with my roommate Chris, we had hooked up a couple of times, but he didn't realize I was in love with him. And when he found out, he told me he didn't requite the feelings....tore my heart out and broke most of it, but kept a piece with him. So, to take the quote, I loved him with the tiny pieces I had. Moved out a few months later, and haven't talked to him in a long time. But I still love the jack-ass.

Well, my guess is that he realized his desire for Jesse is hopeless. This song of such unrequited longing is soooo romantic, so appealing. Unless it's you who's pining for Jesse, you feeling the pain. Then there comes a point when the only healthy thing to do is face the fact that Jesse was a lovely idea that didn't work out.
