This short film chronicles the adventures of a 9th-grade "crew" from the Gaynor McCown Expeditionary Learning School, as they set out on their "crew orientation" -- a five-day wilderness expedition which, for many students, is their first opportunity to leave New York City. Crew orientation helps students develop communication skills, create trust-centered relationships that translate back to the classroom, and instill the drive and confidence necessary for students to accomplish more than they ever thought possible.

To support Gaynor McCown's vision of providing a quality education to those who need it most, contact Paola Vita at pvita@nycoutwardbound.org and tell her "I'm a Friend of Gaynor." You may also send checks made out to NYC Outward Bound, with the notation "I'm a Friend of Gaynor", to NYC Outward Bound / 29-46 Northern Blvd. / Long Island City, NY 11101. The Gaynor McCown Expeditionary Learning School is part of New York City Outward Bound's growing network of Expeditionary Learning schools. Learn more at www.nycoutwardbound.org.
