This video is part of a series of videos on the topic of producing firewood to heat your fireplace or complete home. The series of videos covers the tools you will need, how to cut tree trunks, how to cut trees into rounds, how to split the rounds with a maul or axe into logs, and how to stack the wood logs for drying in towers or stacks.

This particular video focuses on the tools you need:
- lots of space in your backyard (for the trees and for stacks for drying)
- space in the garage for the essential tools
- some safety gear (glasses, gloves, ear protection, boots, and if you can afford it safety boots and a hard hat)
- for cutting trees and producing the rounds
* chainsaw
* chainsaw maintenance kit (typically 2 files, a couple of screwdrivers, ...)
* gasoline canister
* chain oil canister
- for splitting the rounds into logs
* a splitting axe (not a chopping axe used for cutting/felling trees)
* a maul (in some countries called a splitting hammer)
* a wedge (in extreme cases maybe even 2)
* optional: a sledge hammer
* optional: an axe sharpener
* an old used tire
- for drying and storing the firewood logs
* used empty wood boxes for the kindling
* pallets as a base on the ground
* plastic sheets as rain covers
* optional: some ropes
