Glen Lyon has been described as "The longest, loneliest and loveliest glen in Scotland". At the head of the glen is the Lubreoch Dam and Loch Lyon.
Hydro-electric power is generated at the dam. After a walk beside the loch I headed up to the top of the remote Corbett, Meall Buidhe (907m).
It was a great day for wonderful views of the area.

  • I have a friend, now 80, whose family (MacMillan) came from Glenlyon. They were all pipers, and served in the Scots Guards. After leaving the army, my friend and his brother emigrated to Australia in the mid-50's. Now back in the U.K. my friend continues piping, and was invited to play with the Guards on the occasion of H.M. The Queen's Golden Jubilee, since he had originally played at the Queen's Coronation in 1953. He has so many amazing stories to tell !

  • @piperbob2 Great story! Although the longest glen in Scotland, Glen Lyon is very sparsely populated, with only a few small hamlets. It`s another Scottish glen where the population has dramatically reduced over the last few centuries!

  • Beautiful! Breathtaking view!

I can't wait to get back to Scotland again. I was there last August (in Edinburgh) and made some good friends in Glasgow during the Piping Championships, so I'll definately be back. Got to say the Scots I met were such friendly and welcoming people!. . . Thanks for this wonderful video!

    Greets from Netherlands!
