  • what was the point of that the weights on the sled didnt even move up to the fron t on top of the plate.....pulling the same load constantly

  • @2molloy2 Probably because the sled wasn't set for the heavy classes. We can jump in any time we want to pull with an engine during the day or night.

  • There were more than a few operators killed or badly scalded when those old- time boilers exploded. Steam is strong but can be dangerous. Railroad engines and steamboats would explode once in awhile too. It was almost always from a mistake with the pop-off valve but one I know of a fireman let a steam locomotive run out of water when the fire was hot. When he finally engaged the water injector the boiler blew sky-high. Both the engineer and fireman were killed.
  • While I appreciate your comment, I feel that I must reply. Steam boilers in good condition with the proper apparatus are not dangerous.. they must simply be respected. Even poor boilers back in the day would simply leak instead of explode. If the soft plug had not been inspected or if it has been eliminated that would be a major cause for explosion if it was run low on water just for example. Age has nothing to do with boiler condition. Some of the best boilers out there are ca. 1900

  • sled barrely moved..wouldnt been cool to actually see em pull the load.

  • This was earlier on in the day. We can take a steamer in the pull whenever we want during the day.. during the antique tractor pulls. Later on when they are pulling heavier tractors the sled is set faster and it puts a bigger load on an engine. I will try and get some more pulling shots this year. Thanks.

  • that thing sounds cool....

  • @4freespeech

Mmm its not true sorry, the weakest link of a boiler would pop/leak before a boiler would ever got a chance to explode. You will not hear me say IT NEVER HAPPEND what you state i do believe that. But to break down a boiler (as i demolished them rl metal recyle) i had a old boiler dated 1930 or so.

I use 800ton of hydrolic force on it to crush it...i have to make a cut with blow torch in it before i let the machine do its work. Talking about a press that fits 2 mustangs ;)

  • way less polution than a deisel engine

  • @FarmallDoctor

Boilers at public displays must be State inspected, hydraulically tested and approved before the fire is built. That includes having the correct fuse plug in place in the crown sheet.

  • The expansion rate of water is about 1700 cubic foot of steam for every 1 cubic foot of water. If the boiler is creating pressure(whether it is 60 psi or 150 psi) then water must be boiling. If a catastrophic failure of a pressure vessel occurs, its gonna go boom no matter what psi you are running.

  • @FarmallDoctor Of course, I must be wrong. That's

why these continued to outsell gas and diesel tractors

the last 80 years. Seriously my family has been in

railroading for 140 years. They still get along great

with their steam locomotives up at Cass, WV near

where I'm from. But now they run the boilers at

60-70 psi instead of the 150# they used back in the

day when the engines were actually working. Cut

the pressure down that low and there's not much

    to worry about.

  • huge power!!

  • That was great ...hats off to the engineers who keep these old girls going ...just magic guys ,,,

  • is there a way to stall one of those?

  • haa what were the chances of me finding a video like this at the fair grounds i go too...i love these steam engines
