Foster discusses Travis Bickle as an "anti-hero," and the reasons she thinks audiences can identify with him. Martin Scorsese was the AFI Life Achievement Award Recipient in 1997, and Robert De Niro was the AFI Life Achievement Award Recipient in 2003.

I think the creators of the movie themselves feel forced to make these politically correct interpretations of Bickle. Why can't they say, he was a vigilante with an own sense of justice?
And why is it only Bickle that gets treated this way? What about 90% of Bronson's roles or the Man with No Name?
