Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift - No Hiring Generics No Bazaar No Auctions No Items
New challenge!
No Hiring Generics - no generic characters can be hired. All of them should be turned away immediately (even though hiring some gives access to more classes, e.g. hiring a Ranger allows the Moogle Thief to become a Tinker and a Juggler because of the 2nd a-ability taught by Kard). Only the generics you start with can be used.
Do note that this does rule does not apply to special characters. Reading between the lines yet?
No Bazaar - Bazaar can be used only on two occasions. One is the first time you enter (and try to leave) a shop. The second is making an instrument for Hurdy. The weapon created in the first case may not be bought.
No Auctions - No taking part in auctions except for the one time it is needed in the storyline.
No Items - No Items may be used during the battle, period.
Oh, and this is played on Hard Mode. The other way would be lame.
Some other additional restrictions:
- endgame, a character with Sticky Fingers joins the party. This gives us access to very useful equipment, some of it breaking the challenge easily. Sticky Fingers therefore may not be equipped.
- the Materia Blade, an award for a mission, may not be used. Come on, Ultima abilities are awfully cheap.
I have like 4 different FFTA2 playthroughs I'm toying with at the moment as well as some old ones I abandoned a long time ago. I probably won't finish most of the current ones either, but something tells me this one will be finished so I figured I'd start uploading the videos beginning with this battle.
What makes this challenge harder than a normal game? Without bazaar and auctions, the amount of equipment you get is very limited and the equipment itself is pretty bad with a few exceptions. There are points in the game where superior equipment can be acquired, and this will be used.
No Items is pretty much a must, and it was a stable rule to most challenges in FFTA as well, can't speak for FFT. With Phoenix Downs and X-Potions available, the party won't have much trouble surviving. But without that, and shitty Cure spells instead, we're gonna have fun with this thing.
Not spoiling anything, but those who have played the game will know what exactly the best ways of dealing damage at later points will be. Let's just make a hint saying that certain big birds will be ridden as soon as we get Hurdy in our party, and that there will be a huge ejaculation party when the Heritor quests start popping up.
Before this storyline mission (that can be tricky depending on your luck with the enemy's AI and criticals/misses), I had pretty much everyone learn the Counter ability (it wasn't terribly useful here) and made sure both Adelle and Luso knew some Blue Magic.
The War Dance magick was learnt by having the starting Nu Mou control a dreamhare as a Beasmaster. The weapon that allows it was won in one of the missions, I believe.
The Saber that teaches Learning was won in a shop.
Overall, I think it will be a fun challenge because no farming will be present, it will be challenging enough to even be called a challenge, and also for the reason that characters' unique abilities and properties will be used for variety.
I'll make sure I upload more videos of it from time to time.
So for the blue magicks, you have to set the ability "Learn" to your blue mage. I have done that and i have had him since about lvl 6 but he still doesn't know any blue magicks. I'll look at some FAQ's but it would really be nice if oyu messaged me back. And i know im bugging you because this is like the 20th time i've messaged you. So sorry about that.

You won't learn blue magick just by equipping the Learn ability. Specific blue magick skills must be used on the person with Learn by an enemy monster, and the Learn person must survive the skill to learn it. It also has to connect and have an effect on you (e.g. a status has to be inflicted, Roar should actually dispel a status etc.).

MoogleBoss apearantly you appear to be the Best known guy to this Game, can you give me a list of all the Blue magics that available to be learned... i can only seem to learn 4 so far and they aren't that much useful... also can you give me a tip on how to learn Buffing Blue-Magics?
Thanks ^^

The list is much too long, compared to the FFTA1 one. I suggest you look up a Blue Magick FAQ on GameFAQs for a full list as well as the location of monsters (do be aware that some of them list random encounter battles available only after the game's completion, so make note of the magicks you want to learn and check if monsters during every missions have those skills). Buff skills will not be cast on you unless the monster is charmed/confused, but it'll be easier if you bring Beastmaster along.
