Resonant Silence Technique (RST) is used with an autistic 21 year old. RST uses the silence between musical notes and rhythms (negative space) to induce a calming effect. Then breathing exercises and vocalizations on the out breath help this autistic person to decrease stuttering and improve flow of speech. He started neurofeedback (NeurOptimal) 2.5 years ago when he had very few social engagement skills and tolerance for engagement. He literally choked on producing single words even though he has a good vocabulary. He was introduced to RST to engage his new speech and social skills in a functional learning situation. RST has hugely increased his pragmatic skills.
