It's really strange. Maybe I'm the only person on this world who played through Crisis Core, gathered a bunch of background info THAN played through Ff7. I can imagine it would have been a different experience to play the games as they were created. I love this game, Zack is so cool!

He was too stunned that Cloud had the strength to lift him. That, and he'd probably rather get thrown into a reactor than drop his sword.

Why doesn't Sephrioth let go of his Masamune when Cloud lifts him off the ground?

@FoftheCs Sephiroth's appearance in the original game is Sephiroth's will controlling Jenova's body as though it was an extension of his own, shapeshifting it (Jenova's main trait) into his own visage. Cloud is 16 years old during this. Cloud survives because Hojo scoops him and Zack up (Zangan took Tifa away before Shin-Ra caught her) and injects them with Sephiroth cells, for his Jenova Reunion Theory. Cloud and Zack don't die, though they are watched for 5 years until Zack breaks them out.
