When I was told that on April 28th Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment was going to release Marvel X-Men cartoon series on DVD I was ecstatic. I had grown up watching that series and thought that it was the best X-Men cartoon series they have made, better then "X-Men Evolution" and better then the new "Wolverine and the X-Men" The DVDs will have 16 episodes per volume and there is volume 1 & 2. Volume 1 covers:
1. Night of the Sentinels (Part 1)
2. Night of the Sentinels (Part 2)
3. Enter Magneto
4. Deadly Reunions
5. Captive Hearts
6. Cold Vengeance
7. Slave Island
8. The Unstoppable Juggernaut
9. The Cure
10. Come The Apocalypse
11. Days Of Future Past (Part 1)
12. Days Of Future Past (Part 2)
13. The Final Decision
14. Till Death Do Us Part (Part 1)
15. Till Death Do Us Part (Part 2)
16. Whatever It Takes

and volume 2 covers:
Red Dawn
1. Repo Man
2. X-Ternally Yours
3. Time Fugitives (Part 1)
4. Time Fugitives (Part 2)
5. A Rogue's Tale
6. Beauty & The Beast
7. Mojo Vision
8. Reunion (Part 1)
9. Reunion (Part 2)
10. Out of the Past (Part 1)
11. Out of the Past (Part 2)
12. The Phoenix Saga (Part 1): Sacrifice
13. The Phoenix Saga (Part 2): The Dark Shroud
14. The Phoenix Saga (Part 3): Cry of the Banshee
15. The Phoenix Saga (Part 4): The Starjammers
16. The Phoenix Saga (Part 5): Child of Light

The stories they cover in these DVDs are great most of them inspired from events from the comic books. The DVDs had real simple menus even a kid could navigate through them. The chapter selection was easy to us and gave pictures to help you choose which chapter you were looking for. The DVDs also come with an option for subtitles and language tracks for French and Spanish. I started the DVDs and found that they were very clear and clean looking from they way i remember them years ago. The video looked great on the big screen and the sound was wonderful. Cal Dodd as the voice of Wolverine was perfect, best Wolverine voice actor by far. The Dolby Digital Surround Sound provided great wall to wall sound effects. The DVD art was right on with the art of the cartoon, the cases give brief description, episode list and technical specifications. Volume 1 has a runtime of 368 minutes and volume 2 has a run time of 391 minutes. At the suggested retail price of 23.99 each that is a steal. These two volumes are a definite must-own piece of Marvel history! Any X-Men comic fan would love this set and they're great for the kids too.

I mentioned all the great things about these DVDs, and they is nothing wrong with them in any way, but there is always room for improvement. Here are a few things I would like to see them do. I would like to see some interviews with the original creators of the show and interviews with the voice actors. I would also like to see a section for concept art when they were first planning the show. I would also like to see the remaining episodes be released into volumes and eventually a boxed set. But if you are looking to get you X-Men fix you will be more then happy when you pick up these two volumes of Marvel's X-Men from Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Inc.

  • Now we need the rest of X-Men, after that we need all of Spider-man TAS.

  • That's where folks like us come in - tell the world about the DVDs so they sell like hotcakes! But somehow I don't think sales will be a problem. This has been on god knows how many most requested release lists forever...hehehe :)
