@snorkmaiden24 With respect to house music it is all in 4/4 timing and that is a very standard time signature...key signatures and stuff are important if you want to be correct in the music theory aspect of the song...but really most people i know these days producing music do not have music theory backgrounds and are just going on gut feeling when writing songs.

love your use of hardware man ...so bored of making music on software at the moment. keep up the good work. and let me stay at your house i want to live in tokyo.

You are one funky motherfuker.
Is it a Roland MC505 if i may ask? I had one my self but it was some years ago. I was never as good as you using its full potential and bought my self more conventional synthesizers. (Full size keyboards with NO built in sequencers. It was the built in sequencer that made me go nuts when i tried to compose music with the MC505) It good to see someone make that mashine shine :)
3:20 and from that is completely wicked. Funky, As i said, i really like it :)
Best jam so far, this song i like.

@Jasminewynja I don't use a 505 in this track. I started making music with an MC-505 but grew out of it because the sound quality was pretty bad. The 505 is good for SEQUENCING, but not so much for the internal sounds. The one in the video is similar to the 505, it's a Yamaha RS7000....much better, actually. If you like composing/performing music with hardware, then the RS7000 is the best MIDI sequencer, in my opinion. Thank you for your support!

do you have to think about key signatures and song structure before you come up with a tune

@snorkmaiden24 There is no "right" or "wrong" way to make music. There are things that work well in certain situations, though. At the most basic level, any song with notes in it (as opposed to only drums) should be in a "key" (Am, C, F#, etc). I would suggest reading about chord progressions (I, IV, VIIm) and learning how they sound. Then try chord progressions out until you like something. If you keep doing this, you can begin to hear things in your mind and then know how to play them.

@snorkmaiden24 Now, for me personally, writing a song usually happens in one of two ways. One: I hear a lead melody or bass melody in my head and I sit down and build a song around it. Two: I sit and go through different sounds on my Korg synth and play chords that I think sound good, then build a song around that. Building a song, for me, means coming up with a 3 or 4 chord progression and a melody and bassline. The arrangement (intro, buildup, breakdown)comes last, I prefer doing that live

@snorkmaiden24 To answer your question: No, I don't think about the "music theory" stuff first. I think MELODY & RHYTHMIC FEEL first. Then music theory knowledge helps me to take that melody and add chords, bass, etc. You shouldn't have to "think" about anything. Practice playing the keyboard/guitar until you can play what is in your head/heart. Then use arrangement (32 bar intro, breakdown, buildup, blah blah) to make a nice home for your melody. Melody can also mean a "sound sequence" btw.
